    Around the World with @JR_Artist

From the streets of Cuba to North Korea, French artist JR (@jr_artist) takes his Instagram followers along for behind-the-scenes peeks at the latest installations of his massive, flyposted black-and-white photos.

Many of JR’s Instagram photos document his Inside Out Project. For that project, he uses images submitted digitally from people around the world. JR’s team then makes those photos into posters and sends the images back to their owners so they can exhibit them in their own communities, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Parisian projects, Fort Greene Park in New York City, Sierra Leone, and Santorini, Greece.

      Blanket octopus:

The males have a specially modified third right arm which stores sperm, known as a hectocotylus. During mating, this arm detaches itself and crawls into the mantle of the female to fertilize her eggs. The male dies shortly after mating. The females carry over 100,000 tiny eggs that are attached to a sausage-shaped calcareous secretion held at the base of the dorsal arms and carried by the female until hatching. Blanket octopuses are immune to the poisonous Portuguese man o’ war, whose tentacles the male and immature females rip off and use for defensive purposes.
